
Fox The voices and animated images of U2 play supporting roles to Sanitation Commissioner Homer on 'The Simpsons' episode 'Trash of the Titans.'
Remember the Simpsons episode with U2 in it? The one when PopMart rolled into Springfield. Well jsonline.com have published an article that deals with the top jobs held by Homer Simpson and it starts with Homers job as sanitation commissioner for the city.
In the episode, Homer walks on stage in the middle of U2′s PopMart tour to promote his run for sanitation commissioner to the hip people of Springfield.
U2 are in the middle of Pride (In the Name of Love) when Homer gains access backstage past security by carrying a bag of potatoes over his shoulder and then meddles with the engineering controls so as his face appears on the giant television screens onstage.
U2 also sing “The Garbage Man”, a parody of the song “The Candy Man” from the children’s film Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in it.
Steve Martin guest stars also as Ray Patterson, the incumbent commissioner.
The plot centers on Homer having a tiff with the refuse collectors and decides to run for sanitation commissioner himself. He makes so many promises about how he’ll improve the sanitation department and as a result wins the election but then blows the Sanitation Department’s yearly budget of $4.6 million in only a month. Then he comes up with a plan to solve the budget crisis and pay the workers for their services, by getting cities all over the United States to pay him to mash their excess garbage into the abandoned mine shaft on the outskirts of Springfield.
