“Pride (In the Name of Love)” is the second track on the band’s 1984 album, The Unforgettable Fire, it was released as the album’s lead single in September 1984.
Three music videos for the song were made.
The first was shot by director Donald Cammell in the Point Depot, Dublin in 1984 and features opening and closing shots of the Dublin Docklands area.
However, it’s cited that the band was not satisfied with Cammell’s video, and they asked their principal photographer, Anton Corbijn, to shoot an alternative. A “one-take” video was filmed in a basement near London’s Heathrow Airport, it features U2 standing sternly in front of a wall under poor lighting conditions.
Apparently, the band were unimpressed with this video also and a third video was produced by compiling footage shot during The Unforgettable Fire recording sessions at Slane Castle by Barry Devlin.
From user statistics it appears that Donald Cammell’s version is still the most popular with fans.
Let us know if that’s the case or indeed any views you might have on the above piece.
