Recently Rolling Stone magazine outlined its hope and fear for U2 in 2012.
Their hope was that U2 should dismiss with trying to write songs that will get a heavy rotation on radio and concentrate on writing the kind of record they want and then pencil in a tour which will focus primarily on playing in arenas.
As for Rolling Stones fear for U2. Well, it’s about not over-thinking the next album. What they ask of the band is this – know what it is you’re after and settle for it. U2 have worked with a range of producers on different projects over the past couple of years and the fact that they have three albums in the pipeline is that they seem to be going after a record that will compete with the likes of Lady GaGa. Stay loyal to the kind of song writing that’s brought you the success it has and don’t try and be a radio band.
Now we turn to spotlight over to you – U2′s fans – and ask what would your hopes and fears for the band be in 2012?
