All the recent talk circulating on the net and print media about a potential split for U2 is just nonsense.
Yes of course it sells papers and sets tongues in motion on the merits of it. However, I for one believe it is simply not going to happen, not for a long while yet. I think the comments from Bono and The Edge have been taking out of proportion.
U2 are only after completing the biggest selling tour of all time and like all tours they have ended, the band are going to take some time off and no one could begrudge them that. It’s almost like we haven’t heard from them for ages the way the media has spun this and I think it’s all too easy a trap to fall into.
Mark my words, there is still a lot of great stuff to come from U2. Both on the record front and tour front. I never expected that there would be another new album released so quick on the back of their groundbreaking tour, I think most fans did not. So what’s the fuss. Just because Bono said “It’s quite likely you might hear from us next year but it’s equally possible that you won’t.” We are to presume that this constitutes a split. Em, I doubt that very much. It’s a throwaway comment at best and worse. And Bono is such a protagonist at making headlines, yep, U2′s very own PR man keeps them to the forefront in the news.
So for now, let’s enjoy the recent memories they have given us. And don’t believe the hype.
