The Edge - Talks about U2’s new album

The Edge has been talking about U2’s new album, which has the working title ‘No Line on the Horizon’.

According to NME none of the songs U2 penned under the guidance of producer Rick Rubin will appear on the new album.

Commenting on the group’s collaborations with Rubin, The Edge told Rolling Stone: “We actually laid all that stuff to one side.

“Really out of deference to Rick and that set of songs, we just said, ‘OK, that’s that’, and we drew a line.”

He added: “So none of the Rick material went into this project. Everything has been written subsequently. He gave us great advice as much as anything.”

Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, who worked on the ‘The Joshua Tree’, replaced Rubin.

When asked about the record’s title, the guitarist commented: “It’s an image, Bono tells me. It’s like when you’re moving forward, but you’re not exactly sure what you’re heading towards - that moment where the sea and the sky blend into one.

“It’s an image of infinity, I suppose - a kind of Zen image.”

Interscope-Geffen-A&M label chairman Jimmy Iovine revealed that the album, which is expected to be released in early 2009, is just two songs away from completion.
